Emily in England

Hey Hey! Welcome to the wild world of Emily. You can come here and check me out living in "Her Britannic Majesty's realm of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"! That title for the UK is a direct quote from a good friend who's a bit particular about how one addresses his beloved country.

dedicated to Grandma...

i feel like i'm getting worse and worse at this blogging thing...i mean once a month! how lame is that?! but in all honesty i've wanted to write before now, but as you may have noticed i always try to include a picture or two. well for the last couple of weeks i haven't been able to find the cords that go from camara to computer! really frustrating, cuz i've looked everywhere and have no idea where they are! so, i've decided to write despite the fact that they'll be no pictures. for all those visual learners out there, i'm sorry.

a few days after posting my blog i had the great priviledge of hosting a thanksgiving dinner for several of my new friends here in England. i think there were 12 us here when all was said and done and i managed to cook everything, but the puddings! quite a feat if i do say so myself! the only down side to the do-it-all-yourself route is that by the time everyone gets to the party your exhausted. but everyone seemed to love it and asked 101 questions about what thankgiving is and why we celebrate it and how a "typical" american celebrates turkey day. we had a few good laughs. all in all i think i can safely say it was successful attempt at enculturating the english!

more recently, i've begun to move house. i say begun because at this moment though i have a freshly painted new bed room, my bathroom is a construction zone, aka, there's no toilet or shower! so i've moved some of my stuff over to our living room and it will sit there for the next couple weeks. though the bathroom may be done before that, i will be galavanting all over france and england! that's right, i'm soon to make my first trip to france! unfortunately because airline prices triple over christmas i am not able to afford a trip home...so instead i'm going home with a friend. cilla has been a dormmate, roommate, or housemate, and great friend since i first went to Moody and she was born and raised somewhere in south east france (i will hopefully be able to give you a city/town name after christmas!). so since she's going home for christmas and i'm all the way over here too, she invited me along and i'm very excited about it! not only will she be the first friend from america i've seen since leaving, i get to see how the french do christmas.

so if now your thinking, wow, what a swell christmas break emily is going to have. just hold your horses cuz it gets better! as soon as i get back from france with cilla, our wonderful and dearly loved, soon to be married friend jenn is coming over for an 8 day run around england with me! and wonderfully enough there will be a day we all overlap and get to hang out together!

and if now your thinking, sweet, what a great christmas break emily is going to have...you guessed it, keep holdin' those horses cuz it just gets better! so i was talking to a friend who is getting married this january and we were lamenting the fact that i couldn't be at her wedding, so while i was talking to her online i decided to look up plane tickets for kicks. well i found out that there are some very reasonable tickets out there for january and i could get of work for a week, so... after i get done running around with jenn i get to fly to texas, see my family, go to not just one wedding, but two, and on the way home have a super long layover, which is normally horrible, but since it's in chicago i great cuz i'll get to see my friends up there too!!!!

so now, you should be thinking, holy cow, emily couldn't ask for a better christmas break!!! and it's true, i couldn't. i'm so beyond excited about it all that it makes this horrid cold i have now, seem non-existent (at least when i'm thinking about all the upcoming excitement!). i have to say, i love seeing how God meets peoples needs. i mean i've seen Him meet a lot of my financial needs over the past few years, but this...God knew just how much i needed the encouragement and enjoyment of my friends and family and has blessed me beyond what i ever imagined.

one more day of work, one day of packing, and then i'm off! so it's possible you won't hear from me again for a month, unless i have some time somewhere in all my running around to do some blogging,or if i get to see you during all of my running around!! and perhaps i'll have found those cords by then and i'll be able to update you with loads of exciting pictures from my whirlwind ventures. :) until then, take care, God bless, Merry Christmas, and a Wonderful New Year!
